After crashing Cuba twice in less than one day, Hurricane Ida is expected to hammer Louisiana on Sunday, urging evacuations in New Orleans and the neighbouring coastal area.
On Saturday morning, Ida was moving on from Cuba and into Mexico’s Gulf. It is expected to quickly increase over the next 24 to 36 hours before landfall across the Louisiana coast on Sunday afternoon or evening.
The National Hurricane Centre said that Ida is anticipated to arrive at trifling Category 4 strength before landfall, affirming its more initial forecast.
“Ida is forecasted to be a remarkably risky major hurricane when it approaches the northern Gulf Coast on Sunday,” National Hurricane Center forecasters said on Saturday morning.
Officials during the state urged people to evacuate, with some mandatory issuing orders to do so.
