Our judoka, Rio 2016 gold medalist Ramil Gasimov, who arrived in the Japanese capital to participate in the XVI Paralympic Games “Tokyo 2020”, has contracted the coronavirus.
National Paralympic Committee that the results of the COVID-19 test taken from our athlete in the Athletes’ Village in Tokyo were positive. our judoka was excluded from the competitions due to the positive result of the re-test taken a few hours later. He was placed in a special quarantine zone in Tokyo. Ramil Gasimov will return home after the quarantine period expires.
It is also stated that although the results of PCR tests of 11 other members of the judo team who were in close contact with Ramil Gasimov were negative, they will also remain in light quarantine. Daily test samples will be taken from other members of the judo team. Our athletes placed in the light quarantine zone will continue their training and participate in competitions. However, they will not be allowed to attend the opening ceremony.
It should be noted that two-time Paralympic champion Ilham Zakiyev is also among our 11 judokas. For this reason, the flag bearer of the opening ceremony will be the winner of the Paralympic Games in Beijing, Olokhan Musayev.
The committee also said that there are no problems with the health of our athletes in the Athletes’ Village in Tokyo. All members of the team are fully prepared for the competitions.
