Elon Musk’s company SpaceX was able to successfully launch 49 additional Starlink satellites from the Falcon 9 rocket to take the total number of satellites to more than 2 000. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, US, on January 19. Nine minutes later the first stage of the rocket returned to Earth for a pin-point landing on a SpaceX drone named “A Shortfall of Gravitas,” which was located within the Atlantic Ocean off the Florida coast.

Musk is promoting the Starlink initiative which is run through SpaceX as a means to offer high-speed, low latency Internet services across the globe by using hundreds of satellites. The project is primarily focused on areas in remote locations that aren’t accessible to the existing terrestrial Internet infrastructure. In the wake of the recent launch, Musk posted a stunning photo of the Falcon 9 rocket against a rising moon. Musk is also planning the possibility of a Moon-based space mission, as part of NASA’s strategy to return humankind back to the Moon after nearly 30 years. “Back to the Moon soon,” Musk, SpaceX CEO said in response to his tweet.
